New Wireless Device Initiative for Pre-Service teachers

The National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future, a non-profit advocacy group, is collaborating with Qualcomm, Kajeet for Education, and HTC to launch an initiative designed to “empower pre-service/student teachers with advanced wireless technologies.”  The project will promote communication, collaboration, and the availability of resources for first-time teachers.

Five universities have been selected to pilot the project:  Arizona State, Georgia State, University of New Mexico, University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and the University of Texas at El Paso.  Two hundred pre-service teachers at each university have been given wireless mobile devices to help “overcome the isolation of stand-alone teachers in self-contained classrooms…”

Specific information on the exact design and desired outcomes of the program have yet to be released.  As it becomes available, information will be found at http://www.nctaf.org/
