October Issue Brief: International Benchmarking in Education

In Case You Missed It! How are America’s students really doing? We thought we knew, back when each state gave its own state assessments, but it turns out that proficiency rates were often highly inflated. Now we have some states collaborating in assessment consortia (e.g., PARCC and Smarter Balanced).  Those common assessments will help provide a more reliable picture of student performance. What we really need, however, is international benchmarking information that will give us a clear picture of how American schools are performing in relation to international peers. After all, in a global economy, those peers will be our students’ co-workers.

In Core Education’s most recent issue brief, we explore research, commentary, and resources related to international benchmarking in education.  You can read the issue brief here: http://us5.campaign-archive1.com/?u=a4ae2b1b129b9f8a29d50b80f&id=85f8bb2551&e=60969abf82
