Pearson\u2019s Center for Educator Effectiveness has released a new guide to assist states and districts as they begin to develop and implement new teacher and principal evaluation systems.\u00a0 The guide, Evaluating Teachers and Principals: Developing Fair, Valid and Reliable Systems<\/em>, highlights the critical steps and considerations necessary to build a strong framework for fair and valid educator effectiveness systems.<\/p>\n

These steps and considerations include:<\/p>\n

1. Defining the construct:\u00a0 What is an effective educator?<\/p>\n

2. Deploying multiple indicators: What evidence characterizes good teaching and school leadership?<\/p>\n

3. Developing a clear composite rating: What weights should each indicator have and who should be involved in the decision?<\/p>\n

4. Clarify differentiated performance levels: What distinguishes varying levels of educator effectiveness?<\/p>\n

5. Building strong data analysis and reporting tools: What does information reveal about student, educator, and school performance?<\/p>\n

6. Improve instructional and leadership practice: How can the information target professional development to boost educator practice, student learning outcomes, and school efficacy?<\/p>\n
