It offers six key takeaways for how system leaders can embark on this journey, as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Curriculum quality matters a lot.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Content-specific inquiry cycles improve practice.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Culture eats structure for lunch.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teachers need time to improve instruction.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Content experts should facilitate professional learning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">System leaders have vital roles and responsibilities too.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The authors conclude: \u201cSeparating the work of implementing standards-aligned curriculum from the ongoing professional learning in which teachers engage is not only inefficient but also incoherent; it undermines the success of both. System leaders have a responsibility to intentionally weave these work streams together.
