{"id":7490,"date":"2016-12-02T08:00:33","date_gmt":"2016-12-02T12:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coreeducationllc.com\/blog2\/?p=7490"},"modified":"2016-11-22T11:52:19","modified_gmt":"2016-11-22T15:52:19","slug":"evaluation-performance-measures-teachers-principals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coreeducationllc.com\/blog2\/evaluation-performance-measures-teachers-principals\/","title":{"rendered":"Evaluation of Performance Measures for Teachers and Principals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coreeducationllc.com\/blog2\/the-talent-teacher-initiative-early-impacts\/ies\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-194\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-194\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.coreeducationllc.com\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IES.png?resize=224%2C51\" alt=\"IES\" width=\"224\" height=\"51\" \/><\/a>According to a report from the National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance (NCEE), three performance measures used for evaluating teachers and principals provided some information to distinguish educator performance and led to increased feedback.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study examined the first year implementation of a set of three performance measures: observations of teachers\u2019 classroom practices; value-added measures of teacher performance; and a 360-degree survey assessment of principals\u2019 leadership practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A group of elementary and middle schools were randomly assigned within each of eight school districts to either a treatment group that implemented all three of the study\u2019s performance measures or a control group that did not. A total of 127 schools participated in the study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key early implementation findings include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The study\u2019s performance measures were implemented generally as planned. Teachers and principals received multiple rounds of ratings and feedback on their practices. However, fewer principals and teachers accessed their value-added reports than the study intended;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Both classroom observation and student growth measures differentiated teacher performance, although observation scores were mostly at the upper end of the scale. Overall, observation scores varied across teachers, and both value-added scores and average classroom observation scores over the year had sufficient reliability to capture performance differences among some teachers;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The principal leadership measure differentiated performance, but principal self-ratings, teachers\u2019 ratings of the principal, and the principal\u2019s supervisor\u2019s ratings of the principal often differed;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Both teachers and principals in schools selected to implement the intervention reported receiving more feedback on their performance than did their counterparts.
