and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Diversify the workforce.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Developing and Supporting Opportunities for Teacher Leadership<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To maximize teacher impact on student and school success, accomplished teachers must have defined opportunities to share their professional knowledge and expertise with colleagues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To increase collaboration, states and districts should establish systems of teacher leadership that formalize the sharing of expertise in order to promote professional learning throughout a school or district.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Strengthening Pathways of Professional Learning and Growth for Teachers and Principals<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to ensure that profession-ready teachers and principals advance from novices to accomplished profes\u00adsionals, strong professional learning and growth systems must be in place to provide comprehensive support and tailored learning opportunities for each stage of the career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As with other professions that provide scaffolded support and strong mentoring, this professional learning and growth system should foster a supportive school envi\u00adronment and should be built on the skills, knowledge, and dispositions that characterize a teacher\u2019s and principal\u2019s practice at each stage of his or her career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new papers follow the 2014 release of the Coalition\u2019s first two policy papers: (1)<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/coalitionforteachingquality.org\/images\/upload\/Wheel_Doc.pdf\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Policy Roadmap to Transforming the Teaching and Principal Professions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which outlined a framework for building a continuum of teaching excellence that begins in preparation and leads to accomplished practice and the opportunity to serve in leadership roles;
