Many contend, however, that assessments could do more to promote deeper learning in K\u201312 environments. One interesting possibility is the use of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flareassessment.org\/resources\/Paper_Assessment_DarlingHammond.pdf\">Curriculum-Embedded Performance Assessments<\/a> (CEPAs).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Ideas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CEPAs are instructional units designed to promote subject matter learning and the acquisition of skill sets while providing data that can be used for both summative and formative purposes.
