Who were the top educational reformers of 2010? Van Schoales, the Executive Director of Education Reform Now, has posted a Top Ten Education Reformers of 2010 list. There are some interesting picks here!<\/p>\n

From Education Reform Now:
\nSo here’s my “best of” list for education reformers and reforms in no particular order.\u00a0 I had an impossible time narrowing the list to 10 in a remarkable year for reform, so here’s the best 14 or so for 2010. <\/em><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Joel Klein<\/em><\/a> for setting the standard for superintendents.<\/em><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Mike Johnston<\/em><\/a> for showing us how to <\/em>lead<\/em><\/a> in the state house.<\/em><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Davis Guggenheim<\/em><\/a> and <\/em>Madeline Sackler<\/em><\/a> for their powerful filmmaking and help popularizing the <\/em>ed reform movement<\/em><\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Deborah Gist<\/em><\/a> for demonstrating the power for good in a state department of education.<\/em><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Rick Hess<\/em><\/a> for being a true thought leader even though he sometimes plays the contrarian for fun.<\/em><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Michelle Rhee<\/em><\/a> for taking no prisoners and getting “s***” done, watch out adult interests!<\/em><\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Alan Gottlieb<\/em><\/a> for developing a <\/em>new standard<\/em><\/a> for quality regional education journalism.<\/em><\/p>\n

8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>John Danner<\/em><\/a> of <\/em>Rocketship Education<\/em><\/a> for creating a truly innovative and effective school design.<\/em><\/p>\n

9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Geoffrey Canada<\/em><\/a> for taking the “Zone” national and making American Express ads sexy and cool for ed reform.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

10. <\/em>Arne Duncan<\/em><\/a> for leading the most effective of federal education reform program in decades, even if Colorado and Louisana were robbed. <\/em><\/p>\n

11. <\/em>Doug Lemov<\/em><\/a> and <\/em>Steven Farr<\/em><\/a> for documenting what works and how to do it.<\/em><\/p>\n

12. <\/em>Chris Christie<\/em><\/a> teaming up with <\/em>Cory Booker<\/em><\/a> and doing ed reform jersey style.<\/em><\/p>\n

13. <\/em>Michael Bennet<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>for winning so we can have ed reform leadership in the US Senate.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

14. Media powerhouses like NBC for setting a new standard with <\/em>Education Nation<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>Oprah<\/em><\/a> for spreading the word on reform, <\/em>Colbert<\/em><\/a> for making reformers hip while the <\/em>LA Times<\/em><\/a> fostered a great debate even if I don’t entirely agree with their methods.<\/em> <\/em><\/p>\n

There were thousands of other people, ideas and projects that pushed the education reform envelope in 2010.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em> 2011 is lining up to be an even more productive year as the reform movement grows deeper and broader.<\/em><\/p>\n
