The state of Maryland has released a new teacher self-assessment tool. It is available at http:\/\/pdot.marylandlearninglinks.org\/<\/a> This free tool is designed to facilitate teacher reflection related to instruction of students wih special needs. Teachers log in and rate themselves on indicators in ten areas, using a five-point scoring tool. The system then prints a results graph and identifies recommended professional development resources (including video and multimedia) in areas which require further growth.<\/p>\n

To facilitate mentoring and coaching, teachers can select to share their results with others using a password protected link. The tool tracks progress in each area over time, so teachers and their coaches can have a meaningful conversation about longitudinal growth to facilitate goal setting.<\/p>\n

The tool is based on the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) standards and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) standards. It is appropriate for use by educators nationwide. Officials in Maryland say that the tool will be updated with new InTASC standards once the finalized version is released. In addition, many more professional development resources will be added.<\/p>\n
