Decades of research have proven the positive influence principals can have on student achievement, school climate and teaching quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wallacefoundation.org\/knowledge-center\/Documents\/How-Principals-Affect-Students-and-Schools.pdf\"><strong>evidence<\/strong><\/a> suggests that their impact may be even greater than previously thought, as principals continue to assume the roles of instructional and change leaders.?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new Policy Snapshot from ECS identifies two major themes in state legislation introduced between 2017 and 2020 concerning the development of, and support for, school leaders:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Pre-service training and induction programs<\/strong> that prepare leaders for the job.<\/li><li><strong>In-service professional development training<\/strong> that supports student needs and success.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on a review of legislative activities concerning the preparation, induction, mentoring, and professional development of school leaders, at least 34 bills were enacted in 19 states between 2017 and 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more, see: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecs.org\/the-changing-role-of-school-leaders\/\">https:\/\/www.ecs.org\/the-changing-role-of-school-leaders\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Among all in-school factors that impact student learning, teachers carry the most weight \u2014 but school leaders are not far behind.
