Excerpts of the piece appear below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new initiative is taking up the challenge of reviewing and rating professional learning in a more rigorous way, centered on the adoption and use of \u201chigh-quality instructional materials\u201d (HQIM), and with the ambition of becoming something like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edreports.org\/\">EdRep<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edreports.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">o<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edreports.org\/\">rts.org<\/a> of professional learning. Louisiana-based Rivet Education has <a href=\"https:\/\/plpartnerguide.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">quietly published<\/a> a \u201cProfessional Learning Partner Guide\u201d aimed at increasing states\u2019 use of high-quality instructional materials and aligned professional development for teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two dozen or so recommended providers successfully met various \u201cgateways\u201d to merit inclusion. Applicants submit learning materials like training presentations, handouts, guidebooks, course syllabi, and coaching notes. Rivet\u2019s reviewers evaluate the materials to determine if the organizations offer \u201csignificant evidence of robust, HQIM-aligned professional learning services.\u201d Those that meet the criteria are profiled in Rivet\u2019s \u201cProfessional Learning Partner Guide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arguably, the greatest leverage offered by Rivet\u2019s Practice Guide is to raise districts\u2019 own view of what professional learning should look like, and to raise sophistication about high-quality implementation of curriculum.
