{"id":105,"date":"2012-03-28T12:16:49","date_gmt":"2012-03-28T16:16:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/coreeducationllc.com\/blog2\/?p=105"},"modified":"2012-04-25T13:43:44","modified_gmt":"2012-04-25T17:43:44","slug":"score-releases-state-of-education-in-tennessee-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coreeducationllc.com\/blog2\/score-releases-state-of-education-in-tennessee-report\/","title":{"rendered":"SCORE Releases \u201cState of Education in Tennessee\u201d Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE), the nonprofit research and advocacy group that is the major partner in effecting change in Tennessee\u2019s K-12 public education system, released its annual report on Tennessee\u2019s education reforms earlier this month.\u00a0 SCORE also outlined what it believes are four priority areas the state will need to focus on in the coming year to sustain momentum and effectively implement the policy changes made in 2010-11.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>1. Sustained policy leadership will continue to be critical.\u00a0 As Tennessee tries to meet its Race to the Top obligation, \u201creform efforts could lead to discomfort as new approaches replace old standards.\u201d\u00a0 Continued commitment to implementation of the new teacher evaluation system will be vital (this aspect of Tennessee\u2019s reforms has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coreeducationllc.com\/blog.php?category=9&amp;post=212\">particularly controversial<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2. Robust professional learning for educators that support performance evaluations is necessary.\u00a0 \u201cSignificant work\u201d remains to help teachers adapt to the Common Core.\u00a0 Therefore, professional learning should be \u201congoing, content-specific, job-embedded, and collaborative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>3. There needs to be an intentional focus on strengthening teacher preparation programs.\u00a0 The state will need to continue to improve its Teacher Preparation Report Card to ensure new candidates will be effective educators.\u00a0 A partnership between the Department of Education and higher education institutions will need to be more closely forged.<\/p>\n<p>4.
