CTAC opens a Student Learning Objectives Support Center

Increased awareness of how much effective teaching matters has led to a national momentum to find new ways to evaluate teaching. Many states and school districts are redesigning how teacher effectiveness is assessed, rewarded, and supported, efforts spurred or reinforced by Federal initiatives such as the Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF-4).

Many states and districts are turning to Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) as a way to measure student growth and improve instruction. CTAC has been developing, implementing, and evaluating SLOs in both complex urban and small rural settings alike for thirteen years.
As a way to support districts and states on a national scale, CTAC is pleased to announce the creation of the SLO Support Center to help you in every phase of the SLO process. The SLO Support Center offers solutions and comprehensive resources for school districts and states considering or adopting SLOs, and details field-proven strategies for a successful implementation process, such as:
  • Establishing guidelines and frameworks that help teachers and principals set, implement, and measure SLOs for evaluation.
  • Creating two-way communication strategies to engage all stakeholders and to improve efficiency in implementation.
  • Developing models and templates to ensure rigor and comparability across classes, grades, and schools.
  • Providing customized training and tools in the crafting, implementation, measurement and assessment of SLOs.
